Crossfit is everywhere these days, as you have probably heard of it before or know someone who does it. But what is Crossfit, and are you a good fit for it? It honestly depends on your motivation, goals, and if you enjoy a challenging exercise. Here's everything you need to know before getting started.

What Is Crossfit?

What Is Crossfit And How Can I Start?

Crossfit is described as “the sport of fitness," consisting of various high-intensity functional movements. This type of training coaches people to improve their physical well-being, cardiovascular fitness, strength, muscular endurance, and stamina. Crossfit is done in a hardcore yet accepting, supporting, and encouraging environment. It basically builds conditioning through extremely challenging workouts, as each day the workout will test a different part. Therefore, it doesn't specialize in a particular area, but rather the body as a whole.

Who Is Crossfit For?

There is a particular workout for everyone who joins Crossfit, meaning there’s one workout each day that is completely customizable based on your skill. Nonetheless, even though Crossfit can be for anyone, it definitely isn't for everyone due to the commitment and work. If you fall into one of the below categories, then perhaps Crossfit is worth a try:

  • Beginner weight trainers
  • Fitness fanatics
  • Former athletes
  • People looking for support & community

Crossfit mainly attracts a certain type of person - one who likes to push themselves or is rather competitive. However, be sure you don't push yourself too hard that you actually do bodily harm.

What To Expect At A Crossfit Class

If you're interested in joining a Crossfit class, you should probably know what you're getting into first. Lucky for you, almost all Crossfit gyms around the world will let you come in and try out a class for free, so contact your local gym and find out what dates and time they’re having a session. Be mindful that classes are usually structured by an introduction, on ramp/elements (fundamental), or regular class. Then most Crossfit gyms will split their classes into three or four sections. These include a dynamic warm up, skill/strength work, workout of the day (WOD), and finally cool down and stretching. Who's thinking of starting Crossfit now?
